DEVELOPERS PLAY A STRONG ROLE IN HELPING MAKE THE LEATHERBACK TURTLE EXTINCT FOREVER

Playa Grande, Costa Rica 2007 is witnessing firsthand the complete extinction of a marine creature due to human ignorance and greed. The undergoing development of beachfront communities has already helped the critically endangered leatherback turtles’ numbers diminish as they come to one of the last and most important world’s nesting sites. In the past fifteen years the numbers have dropped from 1600 to 60 and are predicted to come to Zero within the next ten years if something isn’t done right now.

The environmental laws protecting the park are being ignored by the foreign investors who have millions of dollars at stake. Openly they are violating the 125-meter buffer zone from the beach to the properties where limited development (under strict restrictions) is permitted, i.e. lighting, pets, and building heights. As the debate heats up the only sure loser remains: the baula (leatherback turtle).

This is only one creature affected in the world, hundreds if not thousands stand on the verge of extinction.
